Myst III ExileMyst III: Exile has arrived. There is a new villian, Saavedro. One of the first things when you start Exile.

Take elevator back to the 1st level. Open three valves. (The valve on the far right is permanently stuck closed.) Edania. Squee Puzzle.

Welcome to Tomahna. You will find out that Atrus and Catherine have a new daughter, Yeesha.

Then you will link to J'nanin. Here is where I was a little disappointed. First of all, I solved a lot of the puzzles by simple luck and a lot of clicking. It shouldn't work that way. The puzzles should be complex enough that shear luck couldn't solve them.

Think of the marble puzzle in Riven and the #@%&. maze in Myst. You had to really think or use a good cheat to solve them.

Within 15 minutes upon arriving in J'nanin I had solved the reflection poles. I was very impressed with the 360 degrees views. It took me a few minutes to figure it out without getting sea-sick. I think the images were beautiful, with the exception of the water. I think that Cyan did a much better job in Riven. But back to the puzzles, I also thought that the elevator puzzle was basically handed to you if you read the journal you found in Saaverdo's room. (Imagine seen through the elevator window.) I also have to say that I did buy the collectors edition, so I did have the strategy guide.

I didn't end up using it until I got to Voltaic Age. I personally did enjoy the Voltaic Age too much. It was sort of spooky, and I was playing the game in the middle of the night. I was totally stuck in the lava puzzle.

Puzzle

There was no way I was going to figure it out, and the cheat book was right there. So, I cheated.

After that, things were pretty good, except that the elevator puzzle in this Age required math, and I was just too tired to figure it out. So out came the book again.

Once I got through that puzzle, it was pretty smooth sailing. Linking back to J'nanin was awesome. Great graphics! When I got back, I discovered that I had missed the link to Amateria. A cool puzzle that is fairly simple to solve.

It might take a few trys of moving the stone, and then going to see if you can get in. I liked this age a lot.

There are some really cool storms that blow in, and some beautiful sunsets to be seen. But here is where I had the best 'luck'.

I was just goofing around, and in 3 tries I solved the turntable tracks. Then I tried to do the resonance rings, which took a lot of playing around. I was probably doing it fresh on a new night, so it took a couple of tries and some more good luck to solve it fairly quickly. There are a lot of fun and cool stuff to do here.

Then I headed back to J'nanin to head off to Edanna. Now, the linking book to this Age was so hard for me to figure out. I had to cheat once again, but after trying a couple of times each night, I decided I had to do it. Besides, I kinda knew what I had to do, I just couldn't figure out the final step.

It's a good puzzle. I like when I am stumped like that.

Edanna turned out to be a truly beautiful and inspiring age. The plants are so interesting. Take some time to look at them, as well as some of the views through the cliffs. I found the puzzles here more difficult, and had a great time here. When I finally went back to J'nanin to link to the last age, I was the most disappointed. Narayan had practically nothing to offer as far as looking and exploring goes. It seems to me that maybe the people of Presto were in a rush to finish the game and they didn't develope this age fully.

Once you get to Narayan, you are going to want to save your games a lot of times so that you can get all the different endings. One little hint. Watch out for that hammer! And the game isn't over unless you truly put everything right.

So if you solve the game, but have a sad ending, try again.:-) Overall, this was a good game, but no where near worth the money I paid. This page was updated on May 24, 2001.'
